Police smash major drug ring

Sunshine Coast police have led an investigation that has busted a major drug trafficking operation across Queensland.

The Sunshine Coast’s Drug and Serious Crime Taskforce has concluded its investigation into the distribution of dangerous drugs in regional areas of the state.

Operation Xray Volt targeted the distribution of methylamphetamine, heroin, cocaine, MDMA, performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) and cannabis between April 2022 and March 2026.

A total of 51 people have been charged with 220 drug and weapon offences, with police seizing more than $80,000 cash, multiple high-end luxury vehicles, a Harley Davidson motorbike and significant quantities of illicit drugs and firearms.

Multiple search warrants were executed in Cairns, Rockhampton, Bundaberg, Maryborough, Gympie and the Sunshine Coast on March 25.

Around 6am, detectives executed a search warrant at an address at Lyon Place in Sippy Downs where they seized GHB, steroids and other drugs, as well as drug utensils, ammunition and other property.

A 30-year-old Mooloolah Valley man was charged with 32 offences including seven counts of trafficking dangerous drugs.

A 20-year-old Sippy Downs woman was also charged with producing dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs, and offence to buy or possess S4 or S8 medicines or hazardous poisons.

Further search warrants were executed on the Sunshine Coast on April 10.

Just after 6am, a search warrant was executed at an address on Tanawha Tourist Drive in Tanawha with police seizing $41,000 in cash, a quantity of MDMA and two mobile phones.

A 22-year-old Tanawha man was charged with one count each of trafficking dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of weapons, possessing anything used in the commission of a crime, possess tainted property, authority required to possess explosives and breach of bail.

Another search warrant was executed at 7am at an address on Pandorea Street in Meridan Plains, where police seized a Harley Davidson, cocaine and a mobile phone.

A 25-year-old Meridan Plains man was charged with possessing property suspected of having been acquired for committing a drug offence, possessing anything for us in the commission of crime and contravening order about information necessary to access information stored electronically.
