Biosecurity Queensland is waiting for the results of tests on a sick migratory sea bird found on Noosa’s Main Beach on Saturday.
The Northern Giant Petrel was taken to the RSPCA’s Wildlife Centre at Eumundi on Saturday and tested for H5 avian flu.
If a positive test is returned it will be Queensland’s first case of the deadly virus.
It is currently being quarantined at the Twinnies facility at Landsborough.
Queensland’s chief vet, Allison Crook, says people need to stay away from any sick or dead birds.
Biosecurity Queensland does not report negative test results and will provide an update if a positive result is detected.
