Return to the seas! Aboard the Black Pearl…?
It’s been confirmed for a few years now that another Pirates movie at Disney is in the works, but the story and its cast has been source of major mystery as well. In the last month though the film has gained more attention as Producer Jerry Buckheimer has discussed some plans for the next film and who we may potentially see in it. What he hasn’t yet mentioned is the fate of one Captain Jack Sparrow.
With the very public divorce and accusations of domestic and sexual violence against Johnny Depp, the franchise took a pause and then chose to part ways with the lead. It was rumoured for years that Margot Robbie had been tapped to take over as the franchises new lead protagonist.
But as time has gone on, the project seemed to fade into the back of everyone’s minds. Depp has since spent many years in and out of court battles which have most often resulted in favouring him, he’s found a somewhat return to grace in the last few years. It’s starting to look more and more possible that Depp could return to his most popular character. Depp however has publicly said that he has no ambition on returning to Disney after how quickly he was fired when the allegations against him came out, this however was many years ago and the actor appears to have mellowed with time so who knows.
Whilst no cast has been confirmed so far, Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that the new film will serve as a “new take” on the franchise will see cast from the originals return. Who these cast members may be we don’t yet know, the script itself is still being written so they may be leaving room for some extra additions that have not yet signed the dotted line.
Former Will Turner actor, Orlando Bloom, was recently asked about his potential return in a recent interview earlier this month in which he said:
“Well, I don’t know, I can’t say anything at the moment because I really don’t know, but there’s definitely availability… I think they’re trying to work out what it would all look like, I personally think it’d be great to get the band back together. That would be great, but there are always different ideas, and so we’ll see where it lands.”
