The Face of the Real-Life Monster Under Your Bed

Forget fiction, the scariest monster face you’ll see today is actually the one of a creature you’ll find in your backyard or under your bed and there is around 20 quadrillion of them in the world, so we are severely outnumbered.

The face could be confused for a photoshop artist’s interpretation, or a scene from the latest horror film, some think it even resembles an Orc from the Lord of the Ring’s Rings of Power series, but the budget it took to get a look like this was zero dollars as it’s all-natural.

Look into the face of true terror, what is this creature?

This very real photograph was taken by Lithuanian photographer Eugenijus Kavaliauskas and was featured as an “Image of Distinction” in Nikon’s 2022 Photomicrography Competition.

The photo is of an ant, more specifically the “Carpenter Ant” and is an extreme close-up showing the face of a creature we’d never be able to make out with the naked eye.

More of Eugenijus’s amazing photography can be seen at his official website here: Eugenijus Kavaliauskas NatPhotographer (dantis.net) or support his incredible images via Facebook and Instagram. You’ll be surprised by the amazing level of detail in each animal and especially look out for one of our favourites taken for Earth Day 2020 of a Musk Beetle.

One thing is for sure, we’ll never look at Ants the same way again, and we might just have found our next idea for a Halloween mask.
