However, the lengths photographers went to in order to secure a photo of her family cross the line from standard celebrity reporting into dangerous territory.
When the Chase Gets Out of Control
If you have ever felt stressed by someone tailgating you on the highway, imagine adding a dozen aggressive photographers to the mix. Garner described a daily reality that sounds more like a high-speed action sequence than a typical school run.
“If I went through a yellow light, 15 cars would go through the red behind me,” she revealed on the Netflix podcast. The pursuit did not stop at traffic violations. Photographers would reportedly drive up onto residential lawns and hillsides just to maintain their visual on the actress.

A 20-Year ‘Stockholm Syndrome’
You might think that after decades in the industry, the heat would die down. While the 15-car pursuits might have faded, the constant surveillance has not entirely disappeared. When asked if the situation ever improved, Garner admitted that she still has two specific photographers assigned to follow her, a routine that has lasted for over 20 years.
Interestingly, she described their current dynamic as having an “odd respect” for one another, comparing it to a mild form of Stockholm syndrome. Even with this bizarre familiarity, boundaries still need to be enforced. Garner admitted she has had to call the police on them numerous times just to negotiate a peaceful walk around the block with her children and her dog.
