There’s a major day of community events planned across the country this Sunday with Australians from all walks of life coming together in support of the Yes campaign for Indigenous constitutional recognition through a Voice to Parliament.
Almost 10,000 Australians have already RSVP’d for family-friendly community events on Sunday 2 July that will feature stalls, information sessions, sports clinics for children, music performances, picnics, dancers and speeches.
There are more than 25 events, including in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast, Gladstone, Barcaldine, Cairns, the Lockyer Valley, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Campaign Director Dean Parkin said the timing of these events marks a shift in the discussion away from Canberra and into the hands of everyday Australians.
“This marks a new phase in the campaign where the focus turns to having conversations in the community with everyday Australians about why a successful referendum will help deliver practical outcomes on the ground and move Australia forward,” Mr Parkin said.
“These events will bring together people from all walks of life to unite for one reason – recognising Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the constitution through a Voice to parliament, so they can have a say on issues that affect them.
“This events blitz on Sunday will give everyday Australians the opportunity to come together, be part of this positive movement and get informed about the importance of a successful referendum later this year,” he said.
