Teens charged over string of break and enters, Gympie

Four teenagers have been charged following a series of alleged break and enters in the Gympie area.

Police will allege between December 2022 and January 2023, two 16-year-old Southside boys, a 13-year-old Gympie girl and an 18-year-old Gympie man were involved in a number of break and enters of businesses in the CBD and surrounds.

A 16-year-old Southside boy has been charged in relation to 26 offences, including 16 counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence by break, as well as counts of stealing of a vehicle, evading police, and unlicensed driving.

He is due to appear before Gympie Children’s Court.

The second 16-year-old Southside boy and 13-year-old Gympie girl were dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.

The 18-year-old Gympie man has also been charged with a string of property offences, as well as carnal knowledge of children under 16, indecent treatment of children under 16, one count each of making and possessing child exploitation material, following a search warrant executed in Gympie on Saturday, January 7.

He has been remanded in custody and is expected to appear before Gympie Magistrates Court on Monday 9 January.

Police are appealing to anyone with information in relation to property crime offences to contact them.
