A Watch and Act emergency alert has been issued for the Sunshine Coast following heavy overnight rainfall that triggered flash flooding.
Nambour has shattered its previous March rainfall record, with data dating back to 1893. Floodwaters have inundated roads across Nambour, Palmwoods, and Yandina, leading to widespread closures. Authorities are urging residents to move to higher ground, avoid unnecessary travel, and never attempt to drive through floodwaters.
Diamond Valley recorded 448 millimetres of rain since yesterday morning, while Nambour, Woombye, Palmwoods, and Eudlo each received over 350 millimetres.
Several people have been rescued from their vehicles, and flood warnings have been issued for the hinterland region following a torrential overnight downpour.

Two cars became stranded in rising floodwaters on Carter Street, Nambour, shortly after 3:30 am, as heavy rain continued to drench the area overnight. Emergency services were called to assist the drivers, who were unable to move their vehicles to safety. Meanwhile, a third vehicle was swept into floodwaters on Dunning Street, Palmwoods, around 4:00 am, prompting a swift response from rescue teams to locate and assist anyone potentially trapped.
