The Sunshine Coast experienced its hottest October day on record yesterday with the mercury hitting 39.1 degrees at the airport.
Records have been kept at the Sunshine Coast Airport for 32 years.
It was also the hottest day for any month on the coast since 2014.
It reached 38.7 degrees at Tewantin and 38.5 in Nambour which were both October records.
Gympie recorded 37.9 degrees.
However, relief is on the way with cooler temps forecast as a surface trough crosses the Queensland coast today.
Weather bureau forecaster, Jonathan How, said it will bring lower temps and reach 23 degrees in Maroochydore and 22 in Gympie.
He said there will be some showers this morning increasing this afternoon, with between 20 to 50mm of rain and the chance of a thunderstorm
