A popular restaurant on the water at Mooloolaba, has partially sunk.
One of the two vessels that forms seafood restaurant Prawn Star, at The Wharf, began taking on water on Thursday morning.
Manager Mark Edgely tells us he got a call around 8am to let him know the boat was listing to one side, by 1pm the bottom half of the vessel was completely underwater, resting on the ocean floor.
“However it’s resurrectable. We’re just waiting for the tide to go out so we can put the floats on it and bring it back up again,” Mark says.
The extent of the damage is still being assessed, but Mark believes they’ve lost a few thousand dollars in stock and equipment.
Despite the loss, he’s confident the restaurant could be back up and running in as little as ten days.
“We’ll be able to fix the boat, find the leak, whatever happened, find the problem and sort that out. These things can happen to older boats.”
He says it’s a bit disheartening, coming off the back of roaring trade on Valentine’s Day.
“It’s a bit of a downer after having such a beautiful day yesterday, and then we have a lot of bookings coming up this weekend.
“We’re trying to notify people but its only a short period that we’ll be closed”.
