Man assessed for critical injuries after horror Bruce Hwy crash

A man in his 70s has died following a serious crash at Bauple, north of Gympie.

Police believe a vehicle and a truck travelling in opposite directions, collided on the Bruce Highway around 8.40pm.

The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.

The driver of the truck, a 28-year-old Ipswich man, was not physically injured.

The Bruce Highway was closed in both directions for several hours.

It re-opened in the early hours of Friday morning.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Anyone with information or dashcam footage is urged to contact police.

The Bruce Highway has reopened, several hours after a serious crash at Bauple.

Police closed the major road, around 50 kays north of GYMPIE, after a truck and vehicle collided at 8.40pm on Thursday.

Emergency crews raced to the scene, where a QAS spokesperson says a male patient was assessed for critical injuries.

Two other people, a man and woman in their 20s, were both checked over but declined transport to hospital.

A Queensland Police spokesperson says the Bruce Highway reopened around 3am on Friday.
