Man arrested at Sunshine Plaza charged over violent armed robbery

A man arrested at the Sunshine Plaza, allegedly found with a bag containing thousands of dollars cash, has now been charged over an armed robbery on the Gold Coast.

Detectives say two men smashed a glass door to break into the Ashmore tavern on Cotlew Street around 3.40am on Wednesday, November 2.

The men allegedly threatened three employees with a fire arm before forcing the 42-year-old man, 34-year-old man and 37-year-old woman into a disabled toilet and restraining them.

The pair then allegedly stole a significant amount of cash before running from the building through the carpark.

Police immediately attended the scene and the Dog Squad was deployed to track the pair.

While the men could not be located, officers did find a stolen white 2001 Isuzu NQR Series truck abandoned in a nearby carpark.

The vehicle had been stolen from Randwick Road at East Deep Creek in the Gympie region, sometime between midnight and 4.00am on November 1.

Following subsequent investigations, detectives arrested two people at a shopping centre in Maroochydore around 6pm on Wednesday.

It will be alleged that they were located carrying a large sum of cash.

A 28-year-old Inverell (NSW) man has now been charged with three counts of deprivation of liberty and one count each of armed robbery, possessing tainted property (cash), receiving tainted property (cash), dealing with identification information and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He was remanded in custody to reappear at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on November 24.

A 21-year-old Inverell (NSW) woman was charged with one count each of possessing tainted property (cash), receiving tainted property (cash), dealing with identification information and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

She was bailed to reappear at the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on November 24.
