Australia Zoo needs your help to find a missing bird.
The majestic bird of prey was last sighted on Thursday, 19th October, flying towards Mount Mellum on the Sunshine Coast in high thermals.
Fletcher is a medium sized whistling kite with caramel or brown plumage who first arrived at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital as an orphan with an eye injury.
Due to the severity of his injury, Fletcher was deemed unreleasable into the wild, and soon became a cherished member of the Australia Zoo family.
Given the presence of other whistling kites in the area, there are key identifying features that help differentiate Fletcher from the rest.
Fletcher may or may not be wearing anklets and jesses. Jesses are leather straps around his ankles which are visible when he is in flight.
He might have a tracking device attached to his tail.
Fletcher is blind in his left eye which can be visible upon close inspection as his eye is white.
The Australia Zoo team is concerned for Fletcher’s well-being and is eager to welcome him back home.
