A Sunshine Coast-based beef producer has won a gold medal at the prestigious Royal Queensland Awards.

Kilcoy Global Foods’ Wagyu steak was judged best in class in Australia at the recent awards in Brisbane.

Their Carrara 640, Wagyu won the top gong in the class with a marble score of 6 or less.

They also won a silver medal for another Wagyu entry and a bronze medal for their Black Diamond entry in the Grain Fed Class and a bronze for their Ebony Black Angus entry in the Open Class.

The company’s Wendell Whittaker said, “it’s very important and actually very rewarding to receive that award. It just talks to the amount of effort that goes into getting this product out to people and having them enjoy it.

“It’s a good call out to the producers in our country who produce some of the best beef in the world and for us being able to deliver that and win awards for it, yeah satisfying,” he said.

“You know the flavour we think is unmatched. The combination with the marbling and tenderness creates that true mouth watering eating experience that leaves people wanting more, so a lot of effort went into it,” Mr Whittaker said.

Their steaks can be found at various restaurants and butchers on the coast.
