Beerwah bushfire suspicious

The large bushfire that forced some people from their homes near Beerwah on the weekend is being treated as suspicious by police.

Residents around Mawsons Road and Holts Road were told to leave immediately on Saturday afternoon and a northbound lane of the Bruce Highway was closed.

Police are asking anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the Mawsons Road area before the fire started to contact them.

The blaze burnt through around 380 hectares and is continuing to be monitored.

Around 38 crews fought the fire and waterbombing aircraft were also used.
