What’s Brewing In The Ocean

You’re invited to Coolum & North Shore Coast Cares  upcoming science talk series at Blackflag Brewing in Coolum on Wednesday 30th July from 5:30pm – 8:30pm
After the success of our first What’s Brewing Event, we are ready to hold our second entitled “What’s Brewing in the Ocean”.
This is a free, all-ages event that brings together local marine researchers to share the latest insights into some of our region’s most iconic marine life: sharks, dolphins and whales.

Registration is essential – please register via the link here: What’s Brewing Tickets
(As tickets are limited, we kindly ask that you only reserve a spot if you’re planning to attend.
If your plans change, please cancel your booking so someone else can come along.
It helps us manage numbers for the venue and makes sure no seats go to waste.)

Drinks will be available to purchase at the bar, and pizza will also be available to purchase on the night.

A little about our speakers for the evening:

Dr Bonnie Holmes
Bonnie is a Senior Lecturer in Animal Ecology at UniSC. Her work uses satellite and acoustic telemetry, genetics and biology to answer big questions about shark behaviour and movement—especially locally.

Dr Alexis Levengood
Dr Levengood is a Research Fellow and Lecturer at UniSC and is fast becoming one of Australia’s leading marine mammal experts. With over 15 years of experience across six countries, her work spans behavioural ecology, genetics, acoustics, health and conservation of coastal marine mammals.

Melina Keane
Melina is a PhD candidate at UniSC exploring how humans and marine wildlife interact in the Noosa Biosphere Reserve, with a focus on humpback whales, dolphins and sharks. Melina’s background in humpback whale research informs her PhD, which aims to improve understanding and protection of local marine life in an increasingly busy coastal environment.
We’d love to see you there for a great evening of science, stories and community connection. This event is the second in a series and is proudly supported by the Queensland Government—Engaging Science Grants.
