SCADaddle 5km charity walk

a Charity Fundraising Walk on the Sunshine Coast to educate the public, and to raise funds for research into SCAD (SCAD Research Inc). The poster for the event is attached.

SCAD (Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection)  is a potentially life-threatening condition that can cause a heart attack, most often in younger women who are otherwise fit and healthy. Despite its impact, it remains poorly understood and is not widely recognised by the general public.  Many Sunshine Coast women have been impacted by this, and many of them will be walking to raise funds.

Our own experience with SCAD has made us passionate about helping other women and families, to recognise the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, and to take them seriously.

My wife, a fit and healthy 54 year old Sunny Coast local, suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while on holiday. She required CPR for 20 minutes to keep her alive until paramedics arrived and were able to successfully defibrillate her heart, intubate her, and airlift her to hospital. Her cardiac arrest was caused by a SCAD

As well as the 5km Charity Fundraising walk, we believe there’s an opportunity for a   local human-interest and health-awareness story here: the experience of a Sunshine Coast family, the lack of awareness and education surrounding SCAD, and the need for greater research into a condition that can have devastating consequences.

We’d be more than happy to speak further with you about the SCADaddle Charity 5km walk, SCAD heart attacks, or our personal journey.
