
The Queensland Indoor Rowing Championships (QIRC) is a prestigious event that showcases the best indoor rowers in the state. The QIRC will take place on June 11th, 2023, at the O2 Performance Gym Sports hub on Main Drive Bokarina Sunshine Coast. This is the fourth time the championships have been hosted by O2. The event is open to all indoor rowers, regardless of age, ability, or experience, and will feature races in various categories, including lightweight, heavyweight, and adaptive. The individual races are distances of 100m, 500m, 1000m, 2000m. There is also a 1-minute timed race. The championships promise to produce Australian and World records from local and interstate competitors. Keep an eye out for: • Joseph Bopf – current Australian record holder in all events in the adaptive category ID 15-16 age group, and world record holder in the adaptive category ID 15-16 age group in the 500m and 100m events. • Members Kayley Mitchell and China Johnson are also world record holders. • From the Sunshine Coast, Jackie Rees (40-49 age group), Peter Adams and Rob Cossalter (70-74 lightweight) and China Johnson (90+ lightweight) are competing. • Triplets Zoe, Jade and Samara in the Under 10 age group from Deception Bay. • Lindy Hou, from the ACT, is a Paralympian Gold medallist in cycling. Local schools can also contest the champion school category, with Kawana Waters State College winning in 2014, 2016 and 2017 and Sunshine Coast Grammar School in 2021 and 2022. Several World and Australian Records will probably be broken on the day. The QIRC is a great opportunity for indoor rowers to challenge themselves, improve their fitness, and have fun with fellow enthusiasts.
