An autopsy will this week reveal how a 19 year-old Canadian woman died on a beach at K’gari.
It’s still unclear if the woman drowned while swimming near the Maheno shipwreck on the island yesterday morning or whether she was attacked by dingoes.
Her body had been mauled by a pack of about ten dingoes when it was found by two men around 6.30am yesterday.
The woman had been working at a backpackers on the island for the last six weeks with a Canadian friend.
Inspector Paul Algie said a post mortem examination on Wednesday will determine how she died.
Inspector Algie said the incident has shocked and traumatised the tight knit island community.
