November 27th has become a big day of celebrating locally made music thanks to AusMusic T-shirt day.
But what exactly is AusMusic T-Shirt Day?
Launched in 2013, AusMusic T-Shirt Day was inspired by the BBC’s “Wear Your Old Band T-Shirt to Work Day.” By 2017, the initiative partnered with Support Act, the industry charity providing crisis relief and mental health services to Australian music workers. Now, every dollar raised goes directly to helping musicians, roadies, and the behind-the-scenes legends who make live music happen.
Why does it matter?
AusMusic T-Shirt Day is about more than just the artists, it celebrates the entire ecosystem of managers, sound techs, and stagehands. For many artists, merchandise is a crucial revenue stream. That T-shirt you wear? It helps keep the music scene alive and kicking.
The funds raised help Support Act run vital services, from its 24/7 Wellbeing Helpline to financial relief grants. It’s a real, tangible way to give back to an industry where many workers face mental health challenges.
How can you get involved?
- Buy the merch: Visit the official AusMusic T-Shirt Day store for limited-edition tees.
- Donate directly: If your wardrobe is already full, you can make a direct donation.
- Create a team: Rally your friends or workplace to collect donations.
- Share on social: Rock your favourite Aussie music tee and post it online with #AusMusicTShirtDay and #ShowUpForAusMusic.
So when November 27th rolls around, dig out an Australian music tee, strike a pose, and give what you can.
