A crackdown on road safety in Rainbow Beach and Teewah has resulted in 126 infringement notices being handed out.

More than 200 breath tests were conducted across Rainbow Beach and Teewah over four days, with two people returning a positive reading and one for drug driving.

A 22-year-old man has also been charged after he was allegedly found driving with drugs in his system on the beach in Cooloola.

Police also say he had multiple passengers in his car without seatbelts, and was driving a defective vehicle.

Sunshine Coast Chief Inspector Michael Miley says the beach is not the place to relax, if driving a vehicle.

“It’s concerning to see drivers detected for speeding and drink or drug driving on the sand so close to campers and beach goers.”

“Please drive with extreme caution and be aware of your environment,” he says.

Patrols are set to continue throughout the region for the remainder of the school holidays.
